Resident Evil: The Final Chapter....is it really?

Way back in 2002, the world of cinema was introduced to the Resident Evil franchise. Video game fans, the world over, had been playing these games for years; and still are playing the games. But was the movie what the game fans were looking for? I'd say no. The first movie had a "similar" location to the first game...but that is really it. But with the success of the first movie, it spawned 4 sequels...some much better than the others. And in these sequels, the world of Resident Evil (the games) started to slowly come out. And it seemed like we, the viewers, were waiting to see when and if a new sequel would be popping up.
I heard rumors that Resident Evil: Retribution was going to be the last film in the series. But I knew that wasn't going to be the case. And not because I'm a huge fan of this film franchise...because I'm really not. I just knew the studios would at least try to pull a little more water from the Resident Evil well. And that brings me to Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. This is a movie I've been ready about for a little while now, and decided to comment on “Final”-ly.
The title says it is the final chapter...and from what I hear the synopsis sounds like...I would have to agree with that assessment. I sounds like it's going back to be beginning, and Alice, Jill, and a group of other survivors will head down into the Hive, to confront the Red Queen one “Final” time. And I like the fact that the are going this route...because indeed, it would be a great way to finish off this “storyline”, and franchise. But the title scares me a bit. Most viewers see this and say, “well, it's telling us it's the final chapter, so what more do you need? It's done.” Not true. Friday the 13th continued pumping out sequels after the fourth film titled...Friday the 13th IV: The Final Chapter. And not to mention Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice....and countless others. Putting “final” in the title of a sequel, does not mean it's going to be the end.
I put storyline in quotations earlier, because that is what I think this film will be ending...the Alice storyline. Maybe that way Milla Jovovich might get some different roles. And yes, I realize she is acting in other things...but this is the role she is known for now...no longer is it The Fifth Element...now she's the chick from those Resident Evil movies. And that isn't a bad reputation to have. The movies have made big bucks in the box office, and dvd/blu-ray sales...but eventually you want to separate yourself from these kinds of roles. Where the actual “horror” icons want to stay in this genre...she doesn't qualify in my opinion.
So that is my rant for the day. I really do hope this film turns out good. And I'm glad it's not slated to come out until 2016. That gives them plenty of time to hash out the details, and give viewers a 100% kickass movie. And that is what I really want to see. One Resident Evil movie that has that level of ass kicking that I felt playing the original game...as well as the same level of fear that I felt when I played the game. And that is something none of the Resident Evil movies have been able to pull off, thus far.
Till Next Time Kiddies...
