Six college students take a wrong turn and find themselves lost in a strangely deserted rural town... only to discover that this deceptively quiet place hides a murderous cult of children controlled by evil forces! Yet even as bodies begin cropping up all around them, the young friends decide to stay and rescue the children... or die trying!

Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror is the fifth installment into a franchise that has a dedicated fan base, but a fan base that only watches it out of loyalty for the most part. With how much most people were disappointed with the fourth film, I never thought it'd be possible for them to go farther down the rabbit hole...but they managed to do just that.

This story is so convoluted, that even it can't keep itself straight. The group of friends, is following a trail of blowup dolls, the lay the ashes of a buddy of theirs to rest. There friend died in a bungie jumping accident in Mexico...well, that's how it starts...but turns out that it's just a cover-up to hide the fact that he actually killed himself.

Once the characters find this out, the ex-girlfriend, who previously inhaled her lost love when they dump his ashes over, doesn't want to believe this...and she becomes one who falls for the tricks of He Who Walks Behind the Rows. And the one who is in control of all of this, this time around, is none other than David Carradine. Don't get me wrong...I think he's an amazing actor, but this is called CHILDREN OF THE CORN...not OLD MEN OF THE CORN. Why haven't the children killed this old bastard. Like I said, it doesn't know what it wants to be.

The acting is awful. The only people of note to mention, besides David Carradine, is Eva Mendez and Alexis Arquette. Some might not recognize Arquette in this film, because he doesn't look like a woman in this one. The other person I really want to mention is Kane Hodder. This is one of the first roles I can remember seeing Kane do, that wasn't as a stunt man or under 20 pounds of makeup. He is the true performer to watch in this film...and he only has one scene.

The look of the film is what all the other Corn films look like at this point. It doesn't break any new ground, and damn sure doesn't blow the viewers out of the water with it's creativity. The only thing the DP really loved to do with this movie, was swing the camera every way he possibly could. Tons of shots with the camera upside down while cars are driving towards it. I guess they figured that if they did stupid shit like that, then the audience wouldn't be able to tell how crappy the images on the screen really were.

This is one of the worst of the Corn film...I know I keep saying that...well, that just happens to be, because they just keep getting worse. It's a vicious cycle with the direct to video sequel market. They throw a sequel together that they know will attract some attention, and then they jerk off on screen to 90 minutes or so, and make us pay to see it.

Do yourself a favor...and stay FAR FAR away from Field of Terror. The only way you should by this film, is if you're a completist, or it comes in a pack with other movies. But one thing to ask yourself. If this film is bundled with other films...are those films that you are really going to want to watch.

Till Next Time Kiddies...
