CHILDREN OF THE CORN IV - (1996)

All the kids in a town over night become feverish and have convulsions. The next day they start to become evil, change their names for those of kids killed long ago, and then start killing any adult in their path, in vicious and mysterious forms. A young woman who has just returned to town tries to find out what is happening, while trying to protect her transformed young sister. However, the kids are starting to revive their leader...

To throw a flu like symptom into the reason for why redneck children go crazy and kill everyone, is a theory that could only be found in a Children of the Corn film. I remember the first time I saw this, and loved it. No...it is not a good film...but I'm a gore hound, and at the time, this was the goriest film in the series, and that put it in my list of amazing films.

The fact that this is the goriest film is honesty the only thing that is has going for it. There are no characters in the film that are remotely likable. So you have no connections to any one of them. The agoraphobic mother who has a lying bitch of a daughter...watch the movie to understand what I am talking about. There is not a single character that I personally give a shit about.

Even the evil boy preacher is one that I could have done without. He is the most “blah” preacher since Micah in the second film...and that is saying a lot seeing how that character was about as exciting as watching flies fuck.

The one thing I like about this movie, was the fact that they cast Karen Black in the film. A woman who has a history with the horror genre...it's a nice homage to the genre when films cast actors of this caliber.

Speaking of actors of a certain character. Naomi Watts stars in this movie...pre-success. I can't imagine why she wouldn't have this film on her resume.

Even with the amount that I rip on these movies...it's because of people like me, and other genre fans, watching all the bad movies they can find...that keeps the cult classic films breathing. If we left it to the studios, these franchises would have been dead and buried long ago.

This is actually one of the worst films in the franchise, so on that note alone...I cannot recommend it to viewers. But, if you have a propensity for bad, schlok-fests...then by all means...indulge to your hearts desired.
